O’Hara Alumna Maggie Doogan Again Named A-10 Player of the Year

University of Richmond senior Maggie Doogan has been named conference player of the year for a second time.

For the second year in a row, Maggie Doogan of Broomall has been named conference player of the year, and one of the best in the Atlantic 10, writes Kerith Gabriel for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

She was one of the best players in the Catholic League when she left Cardinal O’Hara High School. She’s  now in her senior year playing with the University of Richmond Spiders.

She led the Spiders to their third straight season with 25-plus wins.

Doogan is  only the third player in Richmond’s history to reach the 2,000 -point mark with nine double-doubles this season.

Her 48-point night against Davidson on Jan. 10 earned her an A-10 single-game scoring record. It’s the most points so far in a Division I women’s basketball game this season.

The 6-foot-2 senior forward has helped fuel Richmond’s success with consecutive regular-season conference titles and the program’s first NCAA Tournament victory, writes Gina Mizell for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

She had the opportunity to play with larger programs but decided to stay with Richmond for her senior year.

Doogan said she “wouldn’t want to spend my last year anywhere else” after leading the Spiders’ rise.
