Cardinal O'Hara Lions won a PIAA Class 6A title Friday night at the Giant Center.

The Cardinal O’Hara Lions took down Spring-Ford 42-26 Friday night to win a PIAA Class 6A title, the program’s third state win in four years, writes Andrew Robison for the City of Basketball Love, as printed in The Philadelphia Inquirer.

It was an impressive comeback for the girls’ basketball team after losing to rival Archbishop Carroll in the Philadelphia Catholic League girls’ semifinals.

“We’ve been playing with a different heart ever since we lost in the [PCL] semifinal. We knew it was our last chance to prove to everybody that we’re O’Hara,” said Lions senior Carly Coleman. “We came up with this saying, ‘Do everything with a purpose.’

Spring-Ford made just 8-of-37 shots on Friday with O’Hara’s defense making a difference.

It was the third PIAA title for Cardinal O’Hara girls’ basketball head coach Chrissie Doogan, now in her fifth season as head coach.

The first two titles were won with her daughter Maggie being part of the team, but this team win was special, too.

It was her first senior class that she had seen from their time as eighth graders to their last game.
