A Springfield mom is a first-time author after writing a book on grief for her son when his father passed away, writes Alicia Vitarelli for 6abc.

Jacqueline Hastings wrote “My Daddy is in the Sky” for her then-infant son, Colton.
The book reminds people that loved ones who pass on never truly leave.
“He will watch all of my games, whether I win or lose,” Hastings read from the book. “My daddy will be cheering me on when I make my first home run.”
Four years ago, Hastings lost her partner, Chris, who died suddenly and unexpectedly.
“He was a funny guy,” Hastings said, “always so kind, helping others. He was truly the love of my life.”
Their blended family includes Chris’ daughter, Madison; Hastings’ son, Parker, and the son they shared, Colton.
Chris was three months old when his father died. He’s now 4.
“I wrote this book to keep his memory alive and to help our children navigate the grief of loss.” Hastings said.
The book has helped her turn her grief into something positive, something she knows Chris would be really proud of.
