Sixteen-year-old Cole Kuhn is among the top high school pitchers in the country, thanks in large part to Ascent Athlete, a Garnet Valley pitching laboratory, writes Matt Breen for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Kuhn, who attended St. Joseph’s Prep on a partial music scholarship, did not make the JV baseball team as a freshman. However byy January 2025, he was throwing 90 mph when he joined Ascent Athlete.  He can now reach 101.7 mph with his fastball.

The training center features high-tech cameras that track Kuhn’s movements on the mound, a team of coaches who study his mechanics, and real-time feedback on the velocity of his fastball.

Upstairs, the fitness center emphasizes plyometrics, while a computer linked to the batting cages shows hitters how their swings would translate in a big-league park.

“Without question, that place is the single biggest driving force behind his major jumps over the last eight months,” said Kuhn’s mother, Tonya Lawrence. “They’re comprehensive, they’re involved, and they know what they’re doing.”

The general manager of Ascent, Scott Lawler, called Kuhn a “unicorn,” noting that he has never seen a high schooler with such an exceptional arm before.
