A dog is safe and recovering after being rescued from a freezing creek in Chester County this week, writes Brian Sheehan for NBC10 Philadelphia.
The rescue unfolded near Route 30 and Route 100 in Exton, after the dog was seen darting through busy traffic and into nearby woods.
According to witnesses, police and firefighters from the West Whiteland Fire Company and the West Whiteland Township Police Department responded quickly to the scene.
“When the officer got there, the dog was very skittish. You could probably tell it was outside for a period of time,” said Sgt. Thomas Evans. The frightened animal eventually slipped into the icy water, but rescuers and a bystander used a blanket to pull her to safety.
Now named Tinkerbell, the dog is being cared for at Lucky Dawg Animal Rescue in Avondale. Staff believe she’s between three and five years old and recovering from signs of neglect, including sores and missing teeth.
Tinkerbell will remain under care for several weeks before being placed for adoption.
