A resilient puppy who was found abandoned in a Philadelphia park with rubber bands tied tightly around her muzzle is recovering at Main Line Animal Rescue in Phoenixville and waiting for her forever home, writes Franki Rudnesky for PhillyVoice

The one-year-old pit bull mix, named Marigold, had her muzzle wrapped so tightly that the wounds were full of maggots and the bone was exposed.

The pooch was taken to the Pennsylvania SPCA headquarters hospital where she was deemed underweight and with injuries so severe that she had to be transferred to the University of Pennsylvania’s Ryan Veterinary Hospital for several life-saving reconstructive surgeries. Her lower jaw tissue was reattached, her mouth wounds were closed, and her teeth were removed.

Now in the recovery process, she is stationed in Phoenixville. Her bandages were removed last week and she is now ready to be either fostered or adopted. She has already transformed from a sad and fearful dog into a friendly and happy one.

“Let’s ensure [Marigold’s] story inspires others to take action and stand against animal cruelty,” said the Main Line Animal Rescue team.
