A Broomall fox has been traveling neighborhoods sporting a plastic tube stuck around its neck, writes Leland Pinder for 6abc.
Residents and animal rescuers became concerned after seeing videos and pictures of the fox.
Broomall resident Bill Shuker took footage of the fox when he spotted it near his chicken coop around 2 AM Oct. 1 and noticed the plastic around its neck.
“I think he was looking for something to eat,” Shuker said.
It appears the fox has corrugated plastic piping around its neck, possibly from scavenging for food or trying to enter a cat shelter, according to Good Boy Dog Recovery President Colleen Bell.
“The longer he has it on, the more difficult it’s going to be for him to hydrate and eat,” Bell said. “And with winter coming, there’s a real urgency to get it off.”
Bell said their group, which usually does dog rescues, could help the fox with humane traps, live surveillance cameras, tracking equipment, and thermal drone technology.
Bell and her team are working on a trapping plan with help from the Pocono Wildlife and Rehab Center.
People should report sightings but not approach the fox, Bell cautioned.
