Swarthmore’s Heart & Soul’d Supports Foster and Adoption Families

Terry Crossan and Kristen Mancini are on a mission to support families involved with adoption through their nonprofit thrift store in Swarthmore, writes Nick Iadonisi for 6abc.

The sisters are co-owners of “Heart and Soul’d. The store provides new and gently used high-quality items that have been donated to families in need.

Part of the earnings from the store  provide services to foster and adoptive families in and around Delaware County.

“We’ve been able to donate, in our first year of operation, $16,100 to our four different charities in Delaware County,” Crossan said.

Terry adopted her daughter Kat about 21 years ago. Kristen’s daughter, Nina, was adopted seven years ago from the same organization.

“It was such a unique way to complete our families… that we wanted to help other people do that,” Mancini said.

The two sisters have created a community within the store “offering a space to embrace children and adults who have experienced adoption and foster care,” according to the store website.

Crossan and Mancini hope they can make people aware of how many kids are in foster care and need adoption, and how much the families need support.
