A former city couple has made life in the suburbs permanent with a home in Folsom, writes Abigail Covington for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Liz Green, 42, and Adam Rzepka, 40, now own a 1,499 square-foot 1910 craftsman home with three bedrooms and one bath.
“We’ve been city people for such a long time,” Green said.
After Green’s brother moved to Media, the couple exchanged their South Philly environment for a home in Norwood, which they rented for 2 years.
The couple started looking into buying a home in the suburbs with friendly neighbors, places to walk, a public library or a coffee shop, and a backyard for their energetic 5-year-old son.
The Folsom home had “old-school throwback charm,” Rzepka said, including a staircase with a window, sloped ceilings, and a reading nook by the living room.
They paid the asking price of $295,000 and were willing to take the house “as is.”
Green and Rzepka got a first-time homebuyer mortgage through the Federal Housing Administration, which only required 3.5 percent of the home price for a down payment.
“We’re so happy with what we have,” Green said. “We feel really lucky.”
