Diane Pinelli had long since left the Broomall home where she grew up but she hasn’t forgotten it.

In fact, she’s partnered with Lansa McShane to redesign her childhood home into a cutting-edge locale for suburban entertaining, writes Paul Jablow for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Pinelli is a creative director in New York for a women’s sportswear company.

“I love the energy of New York, but I couldn’t imagine not being ‘at home.’ I love having a flower garden,” said Pinelli. “My parents were really big on tradition, keeping the family together.”

McShane is an interior architect, with experience in architecture, engineering, and home design.

The two met online when Pinelli was researching design help. They started the home redesign in 2015.

McShane said they took a traditional Broomall suburban home built in 1957 and turned it into an original showpiece.

Today, the first floor has been opened up, with enlarged closets and raised bedroom ceilings. The interior has “clean, geometric, minimal colors”, including a high-drama combination of red and black as the home’s main colors.

While the home’s interior has a contemporary look, the two kept the exterior more traditional to preserve its history in the neighborhood.
