Montco Restaurants Step Up After Iron Hill Closures

Montco restaurants rally after Iron Hill’s closure: Mama Chang offers jobs, Stove & Co. trades gift cards for diners.

Iron Hill Brewery’s sudden closures last week left staff without jobs and diners holding useless gift cards. In Montgomery County, two local restaurant groups quickly responded with support, writes Tony Di Domizio for North Penn Now.

In Colmar, the Peter Chang Restaurant Group opened its doors to displaced Iron Hill employees ahead of launching Mama Chang on October 10. The restaurant will take over the longtime Golden City Chinese space on Bethlehem Pike. They posted a public invitation for servers, bartenders, and kitchen staff. “We want to extend a heartfelt offer of support,” the Chang team said, pledging a “swift landing during this uncertain time.”

Mama Chang will debut with a ribbon cutting, a traditional Chinese lion dance, and hors d’oeuvres benefiting Lansdale nonprofit Manna on Main Street. The 280-seat restaurant will showcase homestyle Chinese dishes passed down through Chang’s family.

In Lansdale, Stove & Co. Restaurants is helping customers left with unusable Iron Hill gift cards. The group—operators of Stove & Tap Lansdale and Rooster’s Glenside—announced a promotion allowing patrons to exchange Iron Hill cards for $25 Stove & Co. gift cards, available for a limited time.

Together, Mama Chang and Stove & Co. highlight Montco’s restaurant community stepping up for both workers and diners.
