Breweries Rally After Iron Hill Closure with Discounts, Job Offers

With Iron Hill Brewery's abrupt closing, questions are being asked about what happens to all the beer and food left behind.

Pennsylvania breweries are reaching out to help customers and employees impacted by the abrupt closing of the 30-year-old Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant chain, writes Emma Dooling for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The regional chain cited financial challenges and an inability to secure new funding as the reason for the closures. The company is filing for bankruptcy.

The closure leaves a large hole of empty restaurants and displaced employees. About 1,500 workers were employed by Iron Hill at 19 locations as of February.

“Iron Hill was a great asset in the business. Many great local brewers earned their stripes there,” said Glen Macnow, former SportsRadio WIP host and minority owner of Conshohocken Brewing Co.

Local restaurants and breweries are offering discounts to Iron Hill customers.

In a Facebook post, BierHall Brewing co-owner Jim Rommel described the chain as an “industry model” for him and his brother Chris when they developed BierHal Brewing in Lancaster, calling it a “staple of the PA craft beer community for longer than I have been drinking beer.”

BierHall and other businesses are looking to help hundreds of Iron Hill employees who have lost their jobs.
