Airport Romance: Couple Gets Engaged at PHL, Where They First Met

Matthew Brenner and Lesley Venella got engaged on the very spot where they first met–at the Philadelphia International Airport.

It was February 2023 when an airport couple, Matthew Brenner and Lesley Venella, first set eyes on each other.

It was at Philadelphia International Airport.  Venella was taking a photo in front of the “Welcome to Philadelphia” sign, writes Raven Brunner for People.

Brenner had just gotten in from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Always the gentleman, he offered to take her photo, and things progressed from there. They exchanged phone numbers and started a long-distance relationship.

Brenner next “packed a single-checked bag, sold his karate school, and moved over 1,000 miles to start a life with Lesley.

Two years later, Brenner proposed to her at that very same airport, in the exact spot where they spoke their first words to each other. He even covered the “Welcome to Philadelphia” sign with his own, which read, “Will you marry me?”

The proposal was witnessed by their parents and “over 100 strangers” who hung around to witness the special event.

The airport has posted a video about the couple.

“Congratulations, Matthew and Lesley. You met as strangers in our terminal, and now you’re building a life together. We are truly honored that PHL was the starting point for your love story,” the airport wrote in the video.
