It’s Official: Airport Sets World Record for Longest Cheesesteak Line

The Philadelphia International Airport created both a world record for the longest cheesesteak line and a new world record category.

The Philadelphia International Airport set a Guinness World Record Tuesday for creating the longest line of cheesesteaks—1,291 end-to-end, writes Stephanie Farr for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Appropriately, it was National Cheesesteak Day.

The effort required the work of more than 100 employees and volunteers.

“We are the world champions of cheesesteaks, baby!” yelled MarketPlace PHL operating partner Clarence LeJeune, who accepted the award on behalf of the airport.

Foot-long Amoroso rolls were stuffed with 990 pounds of Philly’s Best Steak in the connector between Terminals B and C. They were accompanied by 225 pounds of Cooper Sharp cheese sauce on top.

Two of the volunteers were Kosuke and Tomomi Chujo, owners of Nihonbashi Philly in Tokyo.   Their restaurant has gone viral for its authentic cheesesteaks in Japan.

“We came just for this event. We have to join, otherwise we can’t say we’re a cheesesteak restaurant,” Tomomi Chujo said.

It took about an hour to put it all together.

Afterwards, Guinness World Record official adjudicator Michael Empric tallied the line to make sure it conformed to world record standards.

Per Guinness rules, the cheesesteaks were then consumed by volunteers, airport workers, and the unpaid TSA employees.
