Two local Eagles fans showed their support for the team with their creativity and a lot of duct tape, writes Dave Uram for KYW Newsradio.
To celebrate the Eagles’ Super Bowl LII and LIX wins, friends Michael Howanski and James Knox decided to create replicas of the Lombardi trophy using duct tape.
Howanski, who currently lives in Philly, and Knox, a resident of Media, grew up as Eagles fans in Delaware County.
“We were joking duct tape is a lot like Philadelphians,” said Howanski. “We’re built to last, and we’re always there when you need it. I think that’s a hysterical line and accurate.”
Howanski built the original prototype for the design, using tape and a Nerf ball. Knox decided they needed to go bigger.
Duct tape was the optimal material to use since it’s water-resistant and durable enough to be passed through the crowd.
They made their first trophy for Super Bowl LII and improved the design for the second one they built a few months ago. The new trophy stands eight feet tall and took 20 hours, split between the pair, to complete it.
The Eagles contacted them to get the trophies before the parade, excited to display them once again.
