Glen Mills resident Bill Messick is one of many Philly sports fans with a basement decorated to the nines in memorabilia, writes Zoe Rosenberg for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Messick, a dedicated Eagles fan, has collected souvenirs and keepsakes from all the games he’s attended, proudly putting them on display in his home.
One of these keepsakes includes a program and ticket from the New Orleans Super Bowl between the Eagles and the Oakland Raiders in 1981.
Another personal memento is a picture of his tailgate friends and himself used for a recycling advertisement in the Eagles Gameday catalogs. He hangs them on his wall alongside pendants and photos with players.
However, Messick’s favorite souvenirs are ticket stubs which came from the first football game at Veterans Stadium in 1971 and the final game played in that stadium in 2003.
He isn’t the only devoted Philly sports fan in the Messick family. His two children have also become big fans and can be seen in various pictures with players throughout the family’s basement.
The collection of keepsakes gives Messick “a sense of comfort,” he said. Whether the team wins or loses, Messick will remain a loyal Eagles fan through and through.
