People’s Choice Urgent Care in Upper Darby Fills Medical Gap

People's Choice Urgent Care has opened in Upper Darby, started by Drexel Hill native Dr. Michael Whalen and physician's assistant J Bachovin.

Drexel Hill native and Monsignor Bonner High School graduate Dr. Michael Whalen has opened a new urgent care business, People’s Choice Urgent Care, in Upper Darby amidst the closing of several hospital emergency rooms in the area.

The urgent care center is targeted toward residents who have an immediate medical need but can’t get an appointment with their primary physician, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.

People’s Choice is run exclusively by emergency medicine providers who can handle complex medical issues.

“After Delaware County Memorial Hospital and Springfield Hospital closed, wait times in local ERs have been longer than ever,” said co-owner DJ Bachovin, a certified physician’s assistant. “Our expertise lies between taking care of the most common/benign of medical concerns to the most life threatening.”

“Our hope is to serve people, who feel like they have nowhere else to go but the ER, in finding great care here and avoiding those long wait times,” Whelan added.

Whelan is the EMS director for several Delaware County townships and is the medical director for the Episcopal Academy in Newtown Square

He and Bachovin, who lives in Delaware County, have worked together at Lankenau Medical Center for more than a decade.
