A 24/7 Mental Health Urgent Care Center Now Open in Chester

MVP Recovery is operating a 24/7 mental health urgent care facility in Chester to help alleviate emergency room overcrowding.

There’s now a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week mental health urgent care facility in Delaware County and it’s already making a difference, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.

The program, known as the MVP Recovery S.T.A.R. — Stabilization-Triage-Assessment-Referral — program, started May 28 and is run out of MVP Recovery at 2200 Providence Ave. in Chester.

It’s a one-stop wrap-around non-judgmental service any time of the day for those needing mental health care, whether or not they have substance abuse issues.

About 60 percent of those coming in so far have had substance abuse issues, while 40 percent have not.

“What this is doing is it’s removing every barrier possible but also what it’s doing is it’s alleviating the overuse and overstress of our limited emergency rooms in the county,” said Brian Corson, founder and CEO of MVP Recovery.

Many who seek mental health treatment go to the emergency room, which is already backed up.

Now the MVP Recovery program can fill that gap.  It also removes the stigma for those seeking help.

“We can divert clients to here to better support them, get them the care they need expedited.” Corson said.
