Haverford High School Educator Given Presidential Award for Teaching

Haverford teacher Dr. Jeremy Tomaszewski was recently named the Presidential Awardee for Science.

Dr. Jeremy Tomaszewski, a science teacher from Haverford High School, was named a 2021 Presidential Awardee for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, writes Peg Degrassa for the Daily Times.  

The award recognizes science, technology, engineering and mathematics educators who teach students in the K-12 level. Created in 1983 by Congress, it celebrates teachers throughout the United States whose dedication to teaching has made an impact.  

Alongside a signed certificate from the president and $10,000 from the National Science Foundation, winners are invited to Washington to join policy and professional development discussions. 

Tomaszewski was chosen from three Pennsylvania finalists and named the Presidential Awardee for Science.  

He currently teaches at Haverford High School in Haverford, where he’s worked for the past 16 years. Tomaszewski teaches several STEM courses, including Advanced Placement Physics C; Astronomy; Create, Code, and Construct; and Engineering to Learn.  

He also acts as department chair and the district instructional technology mentor and helped integrate the Canvas Learning Management System.  

Tomaszewski organizes an annual educational event related to STEM called Discovery Day and coordinates several additional programs throughout the year with the elementary and high school students. He also runs and operates a summer program called the Discover STEM Camp Inc
