Haverford High School, this year’s Delco Hi-Q champion, won its second-ever National Hi-Q Championship in a competitive contest against high schools from Washington, Wisconsin, and Alabama.

Teams from Monroe, Wash.; Peshtigo, Wisc.; and Davidson, Ala. competed against the Fords for the national crown via video-conference last week at the Delaware County Intermediate Unit in Morton. Haverford had the daunting task of defending the national title won last year by Garnet Valley.

The national championship meet was similar to all Hi-Q meets in scope, scoring, and subject matter.

It didn’t take long for teams to get used to watching each other on a big screen, while four different quizmasters posed questions.

Kudos to the Haverford Hi-Q team and its veteran faculty advisor David McCauley, who has been coaching the team for 14 years. Team members include:

  • Emma Davies
  • Pryce Davies
  • Quinn Gallagher
  • Jacob Kaufhold
  • Amy Kushlan
  • Peter Martin
  • Jack McGovern
  • Elliot Miciek
  • Stephan Mittleman
  • Isabel Weir

This year’s Delco and National Hi-Q champions will be honored, along with all the Delco Hi-Q teams, at the annual Partners in Education Celebration on Thursday, April 27 at the Drexelbrook Corporate Events Center.

Delco Hi-Q is a partnership between the Delaware County Intermediate Unit and Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union Foundation.
