For Families, a Super Bowl Eagles Win Triggers Cherished Memories

For some, the Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl triumph brought back Eagles memories when games were watched with loved ones now gone.

Dozens of Eagles fans turned out at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield before and after the Super Bowl game Sunday to share their joy with loved ones who have departed and remember days when they watched the Eagles together, reports Joe Holding for CBS News Philadelphia.

Kevin Jr. and Dan Diegnan, joined by Dan’s son, visited the grave of their father and grandfather, Kevin Diegnan.

Kevin Dilgnan, originally from Overbrook, died almost 15 years ago, the day after his grandson was born.

His family visits after every playoff.

“I guess we started back in 2018 when they won the first time, took a couple of shots for good luck, said Kevin Diegnan Jr.  “He roots us on and watches from above.”

Elsewhere scattered around the cemetery were green balloons, Eagles memorabilia, and messages at the graves.

On one, shared by a father and son, there was a battery-operated radio tuned to sports radio.

Family members say remembering their loved ones around the Super Bowl was a way to celebrate that milestone with them.
