There were 1,500 calls Sunday at the Delaware County 911 Center from 4 to 7 PM when local winds were at their gustiest, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Times.
Delaware County 911 dispatchers normally average 1,200 calls in a 24-hour period.
Not surprisingly, most of the calls were about trees down and thousands without power.
The highest number of PECO outages was 48,000 at about 7 PM Sunday. Detailed outage numbers for Delaware County alone were not provided.
Over the next few days, PECO restored nearly everyone, with that number dropping to 734 by Wednesday at 4 PM.
The peak wind gust for the Philadelphia region occurred shortly before 6 PM Sunday, with wind speeds at Philadelphia International Airport reported at 57.5 mph.
The arctic high-pressure system that blew into the Philadelphia region Sunday has brought several days of freezing temperatures this week.
Wednesday’s temperatures never reached freezing, with the same forecast for Thursday. Temperatures start gradually climbing into the 40s and 50s next week, with a balmy high of 57 degrees projected for the first day of March next Saturday.
