Community Rallies to Support Damaged Glen Mills Animal Sanctuary
The Delaware County community is coming together to help a nonprofit animal sanctuary in Glen Mills rebuild after it was heavily damaged in recent storms, writes Nikki Dementi for CBS News Philadelphia.
Straight-line winds crumbled barns, broke fences, and scattered dozens of trees across Happy Heart-Happy Home Farm and Rescue.
“It was absolutely horrifying,” said Lauren Rosborough, the sanctuary’s founder, with some horses trapped under trees.
Thankfully, more than 100 horses, cows, donkeys, and sheep were uninjured, Rosborough said.
The animal sanctuary, which specializes in rehabilitating older workhorses and other animals, is facing over $100,000 in repair costs.
Rosborough is weighing all options going forward, including possibly relocating, as the community steps in to help.
“This is Delaware County. Delaware County doesn’t have farms. Delaware County doesn’t have storms that rip trees out of the ground, but here we are,” said John Reinersmann, a volunteer helping to rebuild.
Thousands of dollars in donations have already poured in through Instagram.
Rosborough remains positive as plans progress for a temporary barn to house the animals.
“We are grateful. We’re going to come out of this, I know that,” Rosborough said.
