Longtime WIP sports talk partners Glen Macnow and Ray Didinger share a love of the theater, one a playwright, the other, an actor, appearing at the Players Club of Swarthmore in Swarthmore Borough.
Now that both are retired from WIP, they’ve been able to chase theatrical opportunities, writes Alex Coffey for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Didinger, who retired from WIP in 2022, debuted his play, “Tommy and Me” in August 2016 after asking Macnow to look it over.
“Tommy and Me” is about the relationship Didinger had with Hall of Fame Eagles wide receiver Tommy McDonald.
“I was pretty gentle [on the script],” Macnow said, “because it was pretty good.”
The play has now been performed at six theaters, most recently at People’s Light in Malvern.
Macnow retired this past July from WIP. He returned to the stage a year after “Tommy and Me” debuted and is now preparing for his eighth show at Players Club.
Didinger is at work on a second script, “Spinners”, about his relationship with a hockey player in the 1970s. Macnow helped edit the first draft.
“Another winner,” Macnow said. “It is a very different kind of story, but another winner.”
