Eberz Sisters’ Family Tradition Is a Win for Archbishop Carroll Basketball

Michele Eberz (née Thornton) starred at Villanova in the mid-1990s.

The Eberz sisters are 60 percent of Archbishop Carroll High’s starting five in basketball, writes Alex Colffey for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Alexis, 17, a junior; and Kayla and Kelsey, 15-year-old freshman, learned basketball from their parents, who were Wildcats stars at Villanova. Now the sisters are on the court together.

Their father Eric was a forward for Villanova, their mother Michelle, a former Villanova guard.

Both are in Villanova’s hall of fame. Seeing videos of their parents on the court was “humbling,” Kayla said.

Their daughters keep the family tradition of basketball alive, all playing on the same team, the Patriots, at Archbishop Carrol.

“We’re encouraging them to really have fun the next two years,” Eric said, “because this is pretty cool, and not too many people get to experience it.”

The Eberz sisters have grown up with access to Villanova’s players and coaches, working with the likes of Maddy Siegrist, Lucy Olsen and former Villanova coach Harry Perretta.

The work has paid off. The sisters often are Carroll’s highest scorers.

Alexis, the oldest, has received more than a dozen scholarship offers — including one from Villanova.
