Glen Mills Resident, Former CIA Officer Enters Race for Seventh Congressional District Seat

By

Glen Mills resident and former CIA officer Shelly Chauncey has joined the list of Democrats announcing their candidacy for Pennsylvania’s Seventh Congressional District seat, writes Alex Rose for the Delaware County News Network.

Chauncey, 37, a political newcomer, grew up on a family farm, and graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C., with a bachelor’s degree in political science. She joined the CIA as a secretary and spent more than a decade with the agency, where she rose through the ranks to become a counterintelligence officer.

Chauncey is also a graduate of Drexel University’s Thomas R. Kline School of Law. A cancer survivor and mother of three, she works as a peer counselor and mental health ambassador.

“I’m running for Congress in the community where I’ve lived for years because I see it as a moral obligation,” Chauncey said. “I’m running because we aren’t going to see real change in Washington unless we send different kinds of people there.”
