Villanova Women’s Basketball Coach Earns 100th Win for Wildcats

A Big East opener Dec. 21 gave Coach Denise Dillion her 100th win for the Wildcats.

Villanova University women’s basketball head coach Denise Dillon earned her 100th win Dec. 21 after the Wildcats defeated St. John’s in a Big East opener, writes Katie Lewis for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The 71-57 victory over St. John’s came after the previous weekend’s loss to James Madison.

Freshman point guard Jasmine Bascoe led all scorers with 24 points.

Twelve points each were also added by graduate guard Maddie Burke, junior forward Denae Carter, and sophomore guard Maddie Webber.

The Wildcats dominated in the first half, outpacing St. John’s in the opening minutes with a 13-1 start.

Bascoe scored Villanova’s first six points and made all five of her first-quarter shots.

Villanova combined a fast pace with sharp shooting to take the game.

Previously, the Wildcats have pulled into the lead, only to lose it later in the game.

Against James Madison University, Villanova committed fouls that had them lose in the final two minutes of the game.

Against St. John’s, though, it had more room for errors upon entering the fourth quarter of the game.

The Wildcats only shot 3-of-11 from the field in the fourth quarter but maintained a double-digit lead in the final 10 minutes.
