Elwyn has launched an ambitious $100 million 10-year campus redevelopment plan.

The behavioral health nonprofit Elwyn, headquartered in Media Borough, is spending $100 million to redevelop its main campus, including a new $45 million school, writes Paul Schwedelson for Philadelphia Business Journal.

It will take a decade to redevelop the 260-acre campus.

Redevelopment planning began last year.  A master plan is being created to include “state-of-the-art environments” that promote “health and healing” for residents, teachers, staff, and the surrounding community.

Villanova-based Haverford Development Partners has been named the developer for the campus project.

Elwyn, in operation for 172 years, provides education, treatment and support services for over 25,000 individuals with autism, intellectual and development disabilities and related behavioral health challenges.

Selecting Haverford Development Partners “is pushing our vision one step further,” said Elwyn CEO and president Charles McLister said.

Charlie Houder, principal of Haverford Development Partners, said he hopes to build an optimal residential, educational and therapeutic environment for children and adults with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities.

North Star Construction Management will also be involved in building Elwyn’s new school.

Elwyn has also modernized its real estate portfolio, selling unused and outdated holdings and investing $39 million in new facilities.
