Philadelphia-area ZIP Codes are well represented among the Wealthy 1000.

These 1,000 ZIP Codes have some of the richest neighborhoods in the US, and six are in Delaware County, writes Joane Drilling and Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The new ranking from the Business Journal looks at ZIP Codes with the highest concentration of wealth, based on a formula that looks at income, home value, and population density.

The Haverford ZIP Code, 19041, ranked 447^th out of the 1,000.

The Bryn Mawr ZIP Code, 19010, which covers Delaware and Montgomery Counties, placed 589^th on the list.

ZIP Code 19087 shares Delaware, Montgomery, and Chester counties and belongs to Wayne. The Main Line community placed 611^th out of 1,000 in the US for wealth rankings.

Newtown Square, at ZIP Code 19073, placed 754^th, while Thornton, 19373, ranked 814th.

Villanova, which shares its 19085 ZIP Code with Delaware and Montgomery counties, placed 839^th out of 1,000.

The rankings show up differently than other wealth comparison studies that look at average home value or average household income because the formula includes denser clusters of wealth.

That means affluent urban ZIP Codes in Philadelphia rank higher than wealthy Main Line suburban areas with smaller populations.
