Despite the economic turmoil of the COVID-19 pandemic, residents in Greater Philadelphia’s 10 richest neighborhoods saw incomes jump 7.4 percent in 2020, writes Todd Romero for Philadelphia Business Journal.
The top 10 wealthiest ZIP codes in the region had an average median household income of $190,967 in the first year of the pandemic, up from $177,767 in the prior year and an increase of more than 25 percent from 2016 to 2020.
The average portion of households making at least $200,000 in 2020 was 46 percent in the 10 wealthiest ZIP codes, up from 36 percent in 2019.
The 19035 ZIP code in Gladwyne tied with 19085 in Villanova as the wealthiest in the region.
The Chadds Ford ZIP code 19317 joined three other newcomers to the list of wealthiest ZIP codes. The others are 08691 in Robbinsville, New Jersey; 08540 in Princeton, New Jersey; and 19707 in Hockessin, Delaware.
ZIP codes with populations of fewer than 2,000 people were excluded.
Other Delaware County ZIP codes that made the top 25 wealthiest list were Thornton, at 19373; Garnet Valley at 19060; Wayne at 19087; and Haverford, at 19041.
