Delaware County Has 2 Apple-Picking Orchards Nearby

Indian Orchards Farm is one option to do some local family apple picking.

There’s way more to Fall than pumpkin spice. There’s also apples, and apple-picking.

When does apple picking season start?

In the Philadelphia area, apple-picking can start as early as the end of August when most of Pennsylvania will have Ginger Golds and Honeycrisps ready for picking, and runs to mid-November, writes Hira Qureshi and Nick Vadala for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

There are plenty of orchards scattered around the state from which to choose. Here in Delaware County, there are two orchard standouts that allow families to pick their own apples.

Plus, nearby those apple trees you’ll find apple cider, apple pie, and cider doughnuts.

Indian Orchards Farm is a 100-year-old farm in Media that has about 25 apple varieties, including Honeycrisp, Gala, and Smokehouse.

Cost is $3.50 to enter the orchard, then you pay for what you pick by the pound or volume. Buckets and bags are offered.

Linvilla Orchards, also in Media, has 25 types of apples they grow throughout the season, including Aztec Fuji, Ginger Gold, and Macoun.

You can get tickets ahead online, then fill a two-quart bag for $11 per person. Linvilla also has baked goods, including fresh apple cider doughnuts.
