Both Delaware Governor John Carney and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy hope to see the Philadelphia 76ers relocate. However, the team has said its goal is to remain in Philly.

As the Philadelphia 76ers continue to move forward on what to do in terms of building a new arena, Delaware Governor John Carney has proposed moving the team from Philadelphia to Delaware, writes the 6abc digital team.

In a recent Twitter/X post, Carney posted: “Hey @sixers, if you’re looking outside of Philly, let’s build your new arena in Wilmington. We’re all in.”

He went on to discuss why bringing the team to Delaware would be a good idea. His list includes the state’s huge Sixers fan base, no sales tax, and a great community.

Carney’s pitch to the Sixers came shortly after New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy expressed his desire for the team to play in Camden. The Sixers already have their team’s corporate headquarters and practice facility located there.

In 2022, the Sixers announced plans to build a new arena along the East Market Street corridor in Center City. Local leaders and neighboring residents in Philly’s Chinatown have since offered much pushback.

While their tri-state area governors’ pitches remain on the table, the team’s spokesperson said their goal is to remain in Philadelphia.
