TruMark Financial Credit Union is looking to acquire the Chester-based Bethany Baptist Christian Federal Credit Union as part of a plan to open four new branches, writes Jeff Blumenthal for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Bethany Baptist was founded in 1983 at the Bethany Baptist Church on 1121 Tilghman Street.

It has $42,396 in assets, 69 members and lost money in the third quarter, according to Sept. 30 data from the National Credit Union Association (NCUA).

TruMark is the fourth-largest local credit union, according to Philadelphia Business Journal data.

As of Sept. 30, it had $2.3 billion in assets, $1.8 billion on deposits and $1.6 billion in loans with 121,952 and more than $15 million in net income.

TruMark will replace Bethany Baptist as the only credit union with a branch in the city of Chester.

Bethany Baptist would represent its 11th deal in the past 14 years.

TruMark now has an ATM at Talen Energy Stadium and is the “official financial institution” of the Philadelphia Union.

TruMark is also a multiyear partner with the Philadelphia 76ers, becoming the team’s first-ever “Official Credit Union.”
