Beyond Pennsylvania’s larger cities there are smaller, less crowded towns that offer natural places to explore, writes Felix Ngeso for MSN.

Among Pennsylvania’s 10 least crowded, but still scenic towns, lies Swarthmore Borough.

Swarthmore is a college town with an uncrowded feel, providing serene and tree-lined neighborhoods. Formerly known as Westdale, Swarthmore is one of the best small towns in Pennsylvania.

For travelers on a budget who still want to see gorgeous scenery and green spaces, you can check out the Scott Arboretum.

This botanical garden on the Swarthmore College campus is open from dawn to dusk and it’s free.

There are scheduled guided tours available but you can also walk through at your own pace. You’ll find yourself near aspiring and avid horticultural enthusiasts.

The gardens can be visited throughout the year but are particularly popular where there are blooming spring flowers or the splendor of the fall scenery.

Popular attractions in Swarthmore include the Swarthmore Farmers Market, Crum Woods, and Scott Arboretum.  The best time to visit this town of 6,539 people is in early June to late September for outdoor activities.
