A new speakeasy and restaurant is coming to Northern Liberties as New York-based Rose Hospitality plans to enter the Philadelphia market, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal

Rose Hospitality is planning to open its second location of The Newsroom in Philly after debuting the concept in Long Island last fall.

Michael Kanevsky, managing partner at Rose Hospitality, said the group is targeting early September for the opening.

It will differ from its New York counterpart, as the Philly location will serve Latin-Asian fusion cuisine as opposed to Latin-European options.

The goal is to differentiate itself from other Latin American concepts in the Northern Liberties neighborhood, such as El Camino Real and Añejo.

“We’re excited to showcase this variation of our menu that we think will be great for the neighborhood because we don’t see any type of that food around,” Kanevsky said.

The Newsroom will seat about 50 people across tables and aims to create a more upscale dining option for the neighborhood.

Kanevsky said Rose Hospitality chose the Northern Liberties neighborhood due to the demographic of young professionals and the new developments.

“We see how many developments are going there, how much new housing is going in, and all those people are going to need to eat,” he said.
