Delaware County wealth surpasses most counties in Pennsylvania.

Delaware County’s wealth is in a good place when compared to other counties around Pennsylvania.

It joins three of its neighboring counties in being among the top five wealthiest in Pennsylvania, writes Kate Melynn Wood for AZ Animals.

The county comes in fourth, below Chester at No. 1, Montgomery County at No. 2, and Bucks County at No. 3.  Filling out the top five is Allegheny County in western Pennsylvania.

Delaware County residents generate an annual average personal income of $78,228. There are about 574,000 people living here.

Delaware County was created in 1789 and partitioned off from what was part of Chester County. Its long history has given its local economy a chance to grow and flourish.

Named for the Delaware River, Delaware County is one of the smallest counties by area in the state.

Wealth was calculated based on the per capita annual personal income of residents living in the county, as reported by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.

The income includes any money received by a household, including salaries and wages, as well as reported income.
