This Year’s D’Dummers Day Parade in Ridley Park Benefitted Brynn Greg, 7
Mummers, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Ridley Park community gathered together last weekend for the Fourth Annual D’Dummers Day Parade, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.
This year’s parade benefitted Brynn Gregg, 7, of Springfield, who has been battling B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia for two-and-a-half years. The Sabold Elementary School second-grader was the official 2024 grand marshal of the parade.
The parade included continuous music by DJ Nick McGrath, raffles, food and drink, prizes, and D’Dummers-themed swag.
“We started D’Dummers Day out of fun at first,” explained organizer Ron Fisher of Ridley Park, president of Delaware County AOH and a member of Finnegan NYB for the Mummers.
It was initially a response to the cancellation of the Mummer’s Parade because of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
The parade grew so big after two years the organizers decided to dedicate it each year to a local family with a child battling an illness, to help pay medical expenses.
“We wanted to make it their day, making them the center of attention in a good and positive way,” Fisher said.
