The 62nd Annual Law Day celebration Friday in Media was a little more “Mummerable” than most, writes Pete Bannon for the Delaware County Daily Times.

The Philadelphia Mummers participated this year with the Chester Drumline, along with WPHL-17 news reporter and Mummers announcer Steve Highsmith; and James May, creator of the Avalon String Band headgear worn by Jason Kelce during the Eagles 2018 Super Bowl celebration.

Law Day is a national May 1 event celebrating our country’s rule of law.  The event is hosted locally by the Delaware County Bar Association.

The Law Day parade was back this year, traveling State Street to the Delaware County Courthouse.

Inside, students from St. Andrew School in Drexel Hill learned about the courts and the rule of law. Highsmith urged a capacity crowd to be aware of its own fears and prejudice, support education, a free press, and those in uniform.

He also encouraged everyone to learn to the Mummers strut.  “America is a place that allows us all to dance,” Highsmith said.

Poster and essay student contest winners were announced and the Penn Wood High School and Merion Mercy Team “A” Mock Trial teams were honored.
