A former homeowner's story in The Wall Street Journal talks about a haunted home in Media.

After The Wall Street Journal story “Selling a Haunted House?” was released, readers responded with haunted tales of their own, writes Kerry Barger for The Wall Street Journal.

One story talked about a haunted house in Media.

Linda Rooney wrote they had bought a house dating back to the 1700s that had an addition added in 1840.

“It was definitely haunted,” she wrote. “We heard skirts swishing like someone was walking on the third floor, but no one was up there. Lights would turn on for no reason, and there were times our dogs would stare at a wall like they were looking at someone.”

One night, her son was reading in the family room when he heard children playing in the yard.

“He looked out the window and thought he saw them playing blind man’s bluff—then they disappeared,” Rooney wrote.

A teenager staying at the house saw someone in Colonial clothing at the bottom of his bed.

The ghosts calmed down after the family had been there 14 years but stirred up again when they went to sell, turning on lights and moving things.

“They didn’t want us to leave,” she wrote.
