Larry Shenk, former Phillies PR man, is rooting the team to a World Series this year from his Delaware County retirement community.

Larry Shenk has a history with the Phillies going back to the 1960s so it’s no surprise he’s rooting for a World Series win this year from his Delaware County retirement community, writes Josh Sanders for CBS News Philadelphia.

Shenk, a former public relations director for the Phillies, is considered Philadelphia Phillies royalty, known to many as “The Baron.”

“You go back to Jim McKay and Wide World of Sports,” Shenk said. “The thrill of victory and agony of defeat. I’ve experienced a lot of that,” he said.

Shenk became the Phillies’ public relations director in 1964.

He was with the team when they moved from Veterans Stadium to Citizens Bank Park, and he was there when they became 1980 World Champions.

“When we won the World Series in 80, we had 65,000 people at Veterans Stadium,” Shenk said. “That was loud. But I don’t remember the loudness we have at Citizens Bank Park.”

Shenk wrote a book in 2014 about his time working for the team. He retired in 2017.

Now Shenk wants another World Series.

“I think the city deserves it. The players deserve it, and they can do it,” he said.
