Joe Dunn from Delaware County made it to the World Series in 1993, not just as a Phillies fan, but as an employee for the team, writes Marcella Baietto for CBS Philadelphia.

He was the Phillies’ assistant equipment manager nearly 30 years ago when they won the National League Championship Series against the San Diego Padres and went on to play the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series, but lost.

Dunn has a basement full of memorabilia to mark the occasions, including first baseman John Kruk’s uniform.

“He always had blowouts and he loved his pants; he loved his equipment,” Dunn said. “So, we’d repair them. Had to learn how to sew that year.”

The team in ’93 gelled together at the right time, similar to what’s happening now, he said.

“In ’93 the players were all particular,” Dunn said. “They had their special hat; they didn’t want to wear anything different. We had to get the hats monogrammed with the World Series logo.”

Assessing World Series tickets was the best part of Joe Dunn’s job, according to his wife, Chrissy.

“It was a lifetime full of experiences and things you just never forget,” she said. Read more about Joe Dunn and his collection of Phillies memories at CBS Philadelphia.
