You Won’t Believe the Ice Cream Flavor Possibilities at Vanilla Bean in Wayne

Owner Mike Blank outside his Vanilla Bean in Wayne, a new custom ice cream store.

When it comes to ice cream flavors, one new shop has everybody beat.

Vanilla Bean in Wayne, a recently opened custom ice cream and coffee shop, features 1,000 flavors, writes Caroline O’Halloran for Savvy Main Line.

Technically, the shop only has two flavors–Bassett’s hand-dipped vanilla and chocolate.

So how can this 825-square-foot business offer such a lengthy list of choices?

Owner Mike Blank, from Devon, said it’s all about the “mix-ins,” a combination of some 50 fruits, sweets, savories, sprinkles, chips, nuts, and syrups.

Vanilla Bean opened Aug. 19 at the former Pie in the Sky Pizza shop on Lancaster Avenue.

This is Blank’s first entry into the ice cream business. He modeled his Wayne shop after a similar one he saw in Annapolis.

Customers choose one of the two ice cream flavors, then add two mix-ins, and all of it’s blended into a new custom ice cream sensation.

Two mix-ins run $5 to $8.50, depending on size. Waffle cones are $1.50 extra.

You can also buy coffee drinks, cold brews, and Affogato, which is ice cream drowning in coffee.

The coffee beans come from Gryphon Cafe, a roasting partner for the Vanilla Bean.
