Delaware County diners can now enjoy the flavors of Jamaica at a new restaurant, Hallow Bamboo, that opened in July in Prospect Park, writes Peg Degrassa for the Daily Times.
“I believe we are the first Jamaican restaurant to open in this area,” owner Shelli Coleman said. “Before we opened our doors, people had to travel to Philadelphia or other areas to get authentic Jamaican meals. Now, we offer choices right here in Delaware County.”
The restaurant operates at the former Famous Crab Cakes on Rt. 420.
The menu, created by Jamaican-born owners Shelli and Steve Coleman of Glenolden, features authentic Jamaican spices and flavors. You’ll find Curry Goat, Oxtail, Jerk Chicken, Spicy Jerk Chicken Alfredo, Curry Salmon, Jerk Shrimp, Vegetable, Beef and Chicken Patties, Brown Stewed Snapper, Coconut Snapper Fish, and more.
Fresh homemade desserts come from Diane Daley of D’Alicia’s Pastries in Yeadon as well as imported Jamaican Rum Cakes.
The restaurant is Steve Coleman’s lifelong dream. Before becoming an owner, the lifelong chef cooked and managed restaurant food and worked on cruise ships.
They’ve been grateful for the community support they’ve already received.
“We hope Hallow Bamboo will benefit the entire community,” Shelli said.
