Upper Darby’s Tina Fey could take over as executive producer of ‘Saturday Night Live’ when show creator Lorne Michaels, and current executive producer, steps down, writes Johnny Oleksinski for The New York Post.
Though Michaels, 78, has said he has no plans to retire, he did comment on “CBS Mornings” last year that he would be committee to the show until its 50th anniversary.
“Saturday Night Live’s” 50th anniversary begins in the fall of 2024.
Fey, 53, is considered to be a leading candidate to replace him.
“I would be surprised if it wasn’t her,” a source said. “Seth Meyers has his own show. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg won’t come here. Judd Apatow passed [on the job] years ago. Amy Poehler has her own stuff. Bill Hader is directing a movie. Kate McKinnon is too hot.”
Another source inside NBC denied the rumor.
But those close to “Saturday Night Live” said the job is Fey’s if she wants it.
Fey served as head writer and “Weekend Update” co-anchor on SNL in 2006.
She has gone on to a successful career as creator and producer of several shows, including “30 Rock”, which has won 16 Emmy Awards.
