Tina Fey returned to her alma mater last week to film a promotional video for the Broadway rendition of her popular movie Mean Girls, writes Nick Vadala for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Fey visited Upper Darby High School with a group of a dozen production staff members and friends. Students were surprised and delighted when she showed up.

“There was an exciting vibe in our building,” said Dana Spino, manager of media services for the school district. “We were certainly happy to have her back.”

Fey, who graduated in 1988, has said her years at Upper Darby loosely inspired the 2004 movie. Her upbringing in Delaware County has also been the subject of several Saturday Night Live skits over the years.

Fey’s Mean Girls musical debuted last month and is currently up for 12 Tony Awards.
