AmeriHealth Caritas is expanding its operations at Ellis Preserve in Newtown Square less than three years after it moved its headquarters there, writes Paul Schwedelson for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The company has signed a lease to take the entire five-story mass timber office building under construction at 203 Square Drive. The 106,000-square-foot building is slated to be completed in summer 2024 at the 213-acre mixed-use development.

AmeriHealth Caritas is the region’s largest Medicaid-managed care company.

Its headquarters at 3875 West Chester Pike was completed in late 2020 by Ellis Preserve developer Equus Capital Partners.

Previous headquarters were near Philadelphia International Airport.

This latest lease is part of AmeriHealth Caritas’ expansion to add 1,000 additional employees over several years. The office building is less than a half-mile from its headquarters.

The mass timber building is part of Equus’ final phase of a 20-year development of Ellis Preserve.

A 200-apartment building opened in February.

Other parts of the final phase include a 140-room Marriott AC Hotel, 75,000 square feet of restaurants and entertainment space, and an 18,000-square-foot wedding venue opening later this year or in 2024.
