Spread Bagelry is opening at the Ellis Preserve in Newtown Square as part of an expansion that includes other states for the first time, writes Emma Dooling for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Seven locations are opening in 2023. Regionally, stores are coming to Newtown Square, Wynnewood, Ambler, and Upper Dublin, but it’s also opening up in Charleston, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia.

Spread Bagelry is known for Montreal-style bagels baked in wood-fired ovens.  It opened its first store in Rittenhouse Square in 2011. Since then, it has added stores in Glen Mills, Wayne, Bryn Mawr, King of Prussia, Cherry Hill and several stores in Center City and University City.

“We were kind of slowly growing, and now we’ve kind of hit this part of the bell curve where we’ve ripped the Band-Aid off, and we’re going to go for this thing,” said Brooks Tanner, COO of Spread Bagelry.

The new Newtown Square store at The Village at Ellis Preserve, 102 Squire Drive, will be 50 percent bigger than other stores, with expanded hours to 5 or 7 PM and possibly an expanded menu beyond bagel sandwiches and breakfast items.

It is expected to open around Thanksgiving.
