Robbie Starankovic a Llanerch Country Club golf caddie and Haverford High senior was diagnosed in middle school with dyslexia and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder,

Now he has received a four-year scholarship to attend Penn State University.

The scholarship is a culmination of everything Starnkovic has been fighting for all his life, writes Aaron Carter for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Platt Evans scholarship is valued at $125,000. It’s offered through the Western Golf Association’s Evans Scholars Foundation and the J. Wood Platt Caddie Scholarship Trust.

Scholarships go to caddies who demonstrate a strong caddie record, excellent academics, financial need, and outstanding character.

“It honestly kind of threw me off a little bit being one out of [many] applications across the U.S.,” Starankovic said. “I am eternally grateful … to be given the opportunity to be an [Platt] Evans scholar.”

Starankovic’s hard work and determination, combined with his parent’s determination, made him a stellar student with a 3.98 GPA.

He was getting frustrated with his school work in middle school so his parents placed him at Stratford Friends School in Newtown Square which focuses on neurodiverse students.

His academics improved. He took up karate, golf and tennis, and became a Best Buddies volunteer.
