In one of Pennsylvania’s most popular pastimes, Punxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow, determining upcoming weather predictions. Julia Musto wrote about the groundhog and his shadow for Fox News.

Punxsutawney Phil, the famous groundhog of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, saw his shadow on Thursday morning. As per tradition, this means that there will be six more weeks of winter.

Phil has correctly predicted an extended winter more than 100 times, according to records dating back to 1887. This marks the 137th celebration of Groundhog Day.

The Groundhog Day tradition has been an important event for Americans since its 1886 orgins; it became a nationwide phenomenon after the release of the 1993 movie of the same name, starring Bill Murray.

Pennsylvanians have been very much invested in the event for some time, as Phil resides in the state and comes to his namesake town every year to make the prediction.

Now that the event is over, residents of areas like Bucks County, Montgomery County, Chester County, and Delaware County can start preparing for the weather by gathering firewood, getting their shovels ready, and having their hot cocoa (and coffee) on hand.
