Puppy Bowl XIX on Animal Planet Feb. 12 will showcase 19 dogs from animal rescue organizations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, including two dogs from Providence Animal Center in Media, writes Maria Pulcinella for WHYY.

The annual “call to adoption” Puppy Bowl is an Animal Planet warm-up starting at 2 PM, a few hours before the actual Super Bowl XVII between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs.

This year’s Team Ruff is hoping to unseat 2022 Puppy Bowl champs Team Fluff.

The three-hour event highlights 67 shelters and rescue organizations from 34 states and involves 122 puppy players battling for the Chewy “Lombarky” trophy.

Representing Providence Animal Center this year will be Chaos, playing for Team Ruff.

Gordon, also from Providence, will play for the opposing Team Fluff.

Game play is guaranteed to be a bit looser than the actual Super Bowl, as the puppies frolic, jump, fetch, and sleep their way through game day.

Besides its pure cute entertainment value, the Puppy Bowl also promotes shelter pet adoption and animal welfare organizations.

It will feature segments on dogs and cats that are up for adoption from 11 animal shelters in the U.S.
